Choosing a company for your HVAC needs can be a difficult task. I want to simplify this process for you. First, don't give into the temptation to hire a company based on low priced offers or services that are "too good to be true". Many of these are shoe-ins to up-sell products or services that you don't necessarily need.
Second, make sure the company has an active contractors license for the work they are proposing. Have them and any sub contractors they are using provide proof of general liability insurance and if either of them have employees that they are properly covered under a workers compensation insurance policy.
Third, company reputation and stability. The last thing you want is to hire a company that doesn't complete the job or honor their warranties. Ask for references and pictures of the work they do.
The length of time that a company has been functioning can also help provide an indication as to its stability. Companies that are "here today and gone tomorrow" can cost you a lot financially and emotionally. I've gone out to repair and remedy installations more than once because the contractor had gone out of business or stopped answering phone calls from a distressed homeowner.
